Scopus Smashes Expectations
Attracts 500 Institutions in First Six Months
Amsterdam, June 5th, 2005Scopus, the world’s largest abstract and indexing (A&I) database of scientific, technological and medical research information, today announced that in the first six months of its commercial availability it has secured over five hundred university and corporate library customers worldwide. As a result, more than an estimated 7 million researchers across the globe are now able to easily and quickly find relevant information spanning the broadest range of scientific disciplines ever offered from a single location on the Web.
Some of the leading institutions to turn to Scopus around the world include:
In North America: Johns Hopkins University, USA; University of Michigan, USA; University of Connecticut, USA; Ottawa University, Canada; University of Alberta, Canada.
In South America: Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso, Chile; Instituto Politecnico Nacional, Mexico.
In Europe: Oxford University, UK; University of Liverpool, UK; University of Wageningen, The Netherlands; The Austrian National Consortium; Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza, Italy.
In Asia Pacific: The KESLI Consortium, South Korea; University of Auckland, New Zealand.
"Scopus’ major strengths are its subject coverage and its intuitive, well-designed interface,” said David Clay, science librarian at the University of Liverpool’s Harold Cohen Library. “Scopus has made the process of analyzing and then refining search results much easier and more user-friendly. Our users are certainly impressed with Scopus, making it clear that it should be a permanent subscription."
Scopus Sales Director Andrea Schweikert is thrilled at the rate of growth in customer numbers -”Scopus is spreading like wildfire. We knew it was going to make an impact quickly, but this uptake is even quicker than any of us had imagined.”
Though recently launched Scopus is not resting on its laurels; “Scopus’ depth, breadth and intuitive interface have helped us burst onto the scene, but this is just the beginning,” explains Scopus Director Jaco Zijlstra. “We are now in the most exciting phase; Scopus has proved itself already and we are now taking the next steps with our rapidly growing group of enthusiastic users to develop Scopus further into an even more powerful resource.”
