Scopus® to Light up Las Vegas Research
University of Nevada, Las Vegas Signs up to Scopus Pre-Launch
Amsterdam, November 2, 2004The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is the second institution in the world to license Scopus, before its commercial launch on 3rd November 2004. The University is offering their scientists a tool to ensure better search results, following their decision to subscribe to Elsevier's highly anticipated, full text-linking abstract and indexing (A&I) database.
As one of the twenty-one development partner institutions across the world, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has been working with the Scopus team since November 2003. “We were happy to be involved,” said Reeta Sinha, Head of Collection Development at University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries. “The opportunity to have direct input to the product was very important. The process has delivered a product we feel will benefit our faculty and students and we are thrilled to offer Scopus at the Libraries.”
As part of a rapidly growing institution in the US, the UNLV Libraries are looking for solutions to meet the growing needs for comprehensive scientific content for research and instruction. But it wasn’t just the amount of full-text links and content in Scopus. “We’ve been surprised at how easy Scopus is to use,” comments Reeta. “There has been no need for expensive or lengthy training courses. Our users just log in and find results.”
Jaco Zijlstra, Director of Scopus, says this early deal is due to Elsevier’s partnership with the universities around the world who helped the Scopus team realize their vision: “This sale endorses all the hard work we have put in with our development partners, to create a product that meets user needs.”
