How image-based linking works
Scopus checks that the required metadata (ISSN, etc.) are available.
A request is sent to the link resolver to check if the institute is entitled to the full text.
Whilst loading, a "Contacting Library” image is displayed.

If entitled, the link resolver will return a "Full Text" image.
If not entitled, the link resolver will return a transparent image.
When "Full Text" is clicked, a request is sent to the link resolver to access the article.
Whilst this technology is non-proprietary, only 1Cate and SFX are currently able to offer their customers these innovative linking options. However, in the future more link resolvers will be able to offer image-based linking.
