Summary of Latest Scopus Features and Enhancements

The following features and improvements have been made to Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources with smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research, on Saturday, April 14, 2007.

1. Enhanced Author Searching

Finding author-related information becomes even easier with the addition of a new field to specify affiliation data and important refinements on author results and author details pages.

2. Scopus Citation Tracker Enhancement

Scopus Citation Tracker now allows users to view up to 2,000 records and receive up to 5,000 via email request.

3. Search Improvements

In response to requests from users, Scopus will offer instant access to the abstract of an article directly on the search results page.

1. Enhanced Author Searching

Several key improvements have been made to the way in which users perform author searches.

Author Search

Author search has been enhanced with the introduction of an affiliation field where users can specify author affiliation data. This refines the users’ search as fewer authors with the same name will be retrieved.

Note: Users can perform a search without providing affiliation data, but will not be able to search by affiliation only.

Author Results page refinements

Author Details page refinements

New totals for documents, web results, cited-by counts and co-authors will be calculated and displayed as in below screenshot.

Registered users can save these additional author profiles as one profile within their new “My Authors” page.

Note: Merged author profiles still need to pass through the formal Author Feedback procedure to be validated by the Author Identifier team and become part of Scopus (see below). It might take some time for the merges and splits to appears on Scopus itself as the correction involve a manual validation step by the Author Identifier team and requires processing. Actual data correction requests and missing content requests can take somewhat longer to implement as a result of the need to potentially request resupplies of the original article from the publisher and complete reprocessing. As far as possible, users are kept informed of the status of their feedback.

Author Feedback

To improve the author feedback process, unmatched authors can be sent directly to the author feedback mailbox from the author details page. A new webpage field has been included in the author details page to encourage users to provide web page addresses that can help in the verification process.

2. Scopus Citation Tracker Enhancement

To further empower users to perform their citation analysis effectively, users can now view up to 2,000 records instead of 1,000 within the citation tracker overview and request between 2,000-5,000 records to be sent to them via email as a CSV file.

3. Search Improvements

Instant abstract display

In response to users’ requests, Scopus will offer instant access to the abstract of an article directly on the search results page. The new ‘instant abstract display’ will allow a quick ‘relevance’ check and save time, bypassing the need to click separately on the ‘abstracts & references’ button.

On the search results page each result will have a ‘Show Abstract’ button. After clicking here the abstract will fold out on the same page. The user can easily hide this abstract by clicking the original button which now says ‘Hide Abstract’.
